Overview

Mission: To provide a constructive summer for brothers Alvin Justice and Jarquavious Murry.

Vision: To see these boys become Godly men and learn to glorify God with their whole life.

Description:
We desire to see God work through several Memphis families to impact the lives of two young men from Binghampton by spending time in relationship with them this summer.

Time Commitment:
The summer project will span a total of seven weeks.  See schedule for available dates.
Each family is asked to spend at least one work week (Mon. – Fri.) with both boys.

We encourage picking up in the morning and dropping off in the late afternoon or evening each day that week, but there is flexibility for schedules to adapt as needed or desired.

A typical day might start with a 9 AM pick up and end with a 5PM or 7 PM drop off.

Daily Schedules:
We hope that common components to each week will include some or all of the following:
-        Work projects around the house or office (for which the boys can earn money for the summer)
-        Time to study for their driving tests
-        Introductions to vocations, careers, and jobs (those in which family or friends are involved)
-        Educational endeavors such as visiting a college campus or reading a good book
-        Rest time and play time with the family like going to the park or playing basketball
-        Meals with the family, lunch and possibly dinner if schedules permit
-        Serving others / community – e.g. soup kitchen, set up for church picnic, cut elderly neighbor’s grass
-        Personal and/or family Bible study or devotionals

The above really just describe having one of the boys “do life” with your family for five days.

That’s a great way to communicate the truth of the gospel and the love of Jesus, and they will learn a tremendous amount from simply being in the rhythm of your home and interacting with your family.  Even running errands with you can be a blessing to these boys.

Weekly Pay:

We ask that host families pay each boy at least $100 per week (a total of $200) for the work that they do.
The breakdown of where that money is planned to go for each boy is as follows:
  • $10 to tithe
  • $45 to spend
  • $45 to give to the household (for home repairs, etc.)
  • Any money over $100 goes to a savings account for future needs like college tuition
We also are asking families who don’t have time to host to consider contributing to the boys’ long-term savings or to helping a host family by sponsoring one or both boys financially for the week.

Desired Outcomes:
-        To see Alvin and Jarquavious come to saving faith in Jesus through the ministry of  Memphis families.
-        To give them exposure to new friends and families of varying age, race, and socioeconomic status.
-        To have their horizons lifted beyond present circumstances.
-        To open their eyes to opportunities and possibilities for education and career that they can pursue.
-        To provide them examples of healthy family relationships in a Christian home.
-        To have them grasp a sense of personal responsibility and develop a good work ethic.
-        To instill in them a desire to live self-sacrificially and to serve those around them.

Please take the opportunity to prayerfully consider being a part of these boys’ lives this summer.

Your family can be involved by (1) hosting (2) sponsoring (3) praying or doing all three.
