Week #4

Stuart & Katie Harris ~ June 30 - July 4

Due to the 4th of July holiday, we had a short week with AJ and Jarq (and Mike for a lot of the time), but it was a good one. Katie and the kids were traveling for most of the week, so—unfortunately for the guys—they got a lot of time with just me. Alvin, Jarq, and Mike did really good work helping us mulch and weed our yard and also helped Tucker and Becky Davis with some projects at their house. At SouthernSun, they deep-cleaned the cabinets in the kitchens and cleaned the glass throughout our office suite. Derrick Boothes, a friend who started a thriving mobile detailing business out of nothing, taught them how to properly detail a car. They did a great job and were thorough, courteous, and engaging all along the way. Mike is going to spend some time with our IT consultant to talk about next steps if he wants to get into IT services.

All in all, the guys were also a lot of fun to be around. It was great to see their high level of curiosity and hopefully they got some exposure to some new and different things. I was sad to learn that I wasn't the first to expose them to Jerry's Sno Cones, but I think I redeemed myself by taking them for Greekburgers and wings at Alex's on Jackson.

AJ, Jarq, and Mike seem to grasp what Grace said in a previous post about how God often uses difficult circumstances for the good of those who love Him. We talked some about the lack of good peers/influences in their neighborhood and they seem to be really judicious about who they spend their time with. I feel like they are having to isolate themselves to keep from the temptations of their tough surroundings. My prayer is that they have people in their immediate area who share a love for the Lord so they don't feel like they are "on an island" in their neighborhood.

We look forward to hanging out with them more in the future and getting to know them all better!

Kickin' it at Jerry's. AJ got an Orange Supreme and Jarq got a banana sno cone. I couldn't convince them that blackberry is the only way to go.

Wilkes showing off his blue raspberry tongue....Jarq wasn't sure what to think about it.

Getting a little workout in at SouthernSun before moving on to the next project.

Jarq, Mike, and AJ - former virgins to the deliciousness that Alex's serves up. They also played a couple of games of shuffleboard.

"Riding clean" in my car (detailed by them that afternoon!)
